9 Things That Weigh Around 7 Tons


There are a plethora of heavyweight items, some are around us, we use some every day, and we’ve never seen some, but we hear about them or have read about them in books or seen them on the Television. 

This piece seeks to bring to your knowledge some heavyweight items, particularly ones weighing around 7 tons, and all you need to know about them. 

In the real sense, 7 is not a large number, so you might be wondering why something associated with 7 has been termed heavyweight in the first paragraph of this piece; well a ton is equivalent to 2000 pounds and 907 kilograms, this means that 7 tons are the equivalent of 14000 pounds and 6350 kilograms. 

1. Rolls Royce RB-211

The Rolls-Royce RB211 is a British family of high-bypass turbofan engines made by Rolls-Royce. These engines have the capacity of generating 41,030 to 59,450 lbf (182.5 to 264.4 kN) of thrust. The RB211 engine is Rolls Royce’s first three-spool engine, and it moved the company from a mere significant player in the aero-engine industry into a global leader of the industry. 

Rolls-Royce engines are usually named with letters and numbers and the RB211 is no different. 

The B derivative stands for Barnoldswick, which was later changed to RB (Rolls Barnoldswick). The engines weigh around 7 tons.

That is the standard length the federal government has set for use on highways across the country. For a 48 ft trailer, the overall width is 102, and overall height is 13 ft 6 inches and it has a capacity of 3,465 cu ft (cubic feet) and weighs about 7 tons.

5. 2500 kva Transformer

A transformer is a device that transfers electric energy from one alternating-current circuit to one or more other circuits, either increasing (stepping up) or reducing (stepping down) the voltage.

The KVA in a transformer specification represents kilovolt-amperes or 1,000 volt-amperes. Hence, a transformer with a 1.0 kVA rating is the equivalent of a transformer with a 1,000 VA rating and it can handle 100 volts at 10 amps of current. A 2500 transformer weighs around 7 tons. 

6. US Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacements

MTVR  or 7-Ton is an all-wheel-drive all-terrain vehicle used by the United States Marine Corps and the United States Navy.

It was built as a replacement for the old M939 tactical trucks, and it was first displayed in 1998 after the contract was awarded to Oshkosh Truck Corporation. The MTVR comes in several variants, for a wide spectrum of tasks. It offers a major improvement in off-road capability. It weighs around 7 tons.

The type B school buses are identified and distinguished primarily by the location of the engine, which is built-in beneath or behind the windshield and next to the seat of the driver.

This bus weighs around 7 tons and carries more than 10 people at a time. The entrance for both the driver and passengers is on the right side of the vehicle, behind the front wheels.

The armored limousine is powered by a 4.4-liter V8 engine developed by NAMI, with a 6.6 liter V12 (634 kW). It is the Presidential state car of Russia and replaced a Mercedes-Benz S 600 Guard Pullman. The car is equipped with many life-saving, offensive, and defensive measures, and is built to the Federal Protective Service’s standards.  It has a curb weight of about 7 tons. 

9. African Bush Elephant 

The African Bush Elephant is the largest living terrestrial animal, with bulls reaching a shoulder height of up to 3.96 m (13.0 ft) and a body mass of up to 10.4 t (11.5 short tons).

It is scattered across 37 African countries and it lives in forests, grasslands and woodlands, wetlands, and agricultural land. Recently, the IUCN has listed it as an endangered species on its red list. It is majorly threatened by habitat destruction, and also by poaching for meat and ivory. It travels in herds composed of cows and their offspring.

The African bush elephant typically weighs around 6,000 kg but a study shows that they can grow bigger and weigh up to 7 tons.
