11 Things That Weight Around 1000 lbs (pounds)

It’s probably hard to grasp what 1,000 pounds looks like without a visual perspective.

There are so many things within our view every day that either weigh 1,000 pounds by themselves or as multiples of themselves.

So, to give you a visual perspective, here is a list of 11 things that weigh 1,000 pounds.

There are different types of wood poles that include: coastal douglas fir, southern yellow pine, western cedar, and pinus sylvestris, and each one has its own characteristics, and is considered to be in a specific class.

So, let’s say we went with a coastal douglas fir, which is found through most of the northwest section of the U.S. and one of the most well-known trees in existence.  A 40-ft coastal douglas fir is estimated to weigh just over 1,000 pounds (1,100 lbs.)

2. Concert Grand Piano

A concert grand piano weighs approximately 1,000 pounds. Did you know that even though grand pianos of the same brand are made the same, they are each different?

The same workers pour into each piano the same with the same materials, but each piano ends up being different than the other.

This is not so much appearance, but in other ways like colorations of sound and nuances of strength or delicacy. Each piano seems to take on its own personality, making it even that much more unique of an instrument.

The equipment thoroughbreds wear in races like the Kentucky Derby can weigh as much as 120 pounds.

4. 2 Pigs

Pigs vary in size and weight, ranging from 300 pounds to 700 pounds. The average pig weighs about 500 pounds.

Many variables need to be taken into consideration to know the weight of snow, like the density and the type of snow.

So, it’s not always easy to accurately predict; however, one cubic meter of freshly fallen snow under standard conditions weighs an average of 510 pounds. That means 2-cubic meters of snow would weigh at least 1,000 pounds.

6. 3 Reindeers

The average reindeer weighs 365 pounds. Three average reindeer weigh just over 1,000 pounds. Reindeer are fast creatures with recorded speeds of 36 to 48 mph.

They live in large herds. There could be anywhere from 50,000 to 500,000 of them at a time.

7. 3 Panda Bears

An adult male panda bear can weigh up to 330 pounds. That would make three of them very close to 1,000 pounds. Pandas spend 10 to 16 hours a day eating.

Their main source of food is bamboo; it’s critical to their diet. They need at least 14 pounds of it each day to avoid starvation.

8. 5 Kangaroos

The red kangaroo is the largest of kangaroos. The length of its head to its rump is 3.25 to 5.25 feet. The tail adds another 35.5 to 43.5 inches of length to its body, and it weighs about 200 pounds.
