For some, the saying “a ton of bricks”, may be a slight exaggeration of the original weight of its subject. One thing is for sure, when said, that statement implies the enormity of the subject in question.
Now imagine that weight at 25 times the size of what seems like a ton – that may seem a little hard to grasp. To put it in a better perspective, when something is 25 tons, it’s about four times as heavy as an elephant, or 50,000 pounds. Here’s a list of some common items that fit that weight class:

While three of these items hit the mark right at 25 tons, most of them are slightly below or above that weight. Some of these items do make the mark given certain situations, as you will learn as you read on. We have kept our list as close to the mark as possible.
Hitting The Mark at 25 Tons
1. County Line Log Splitter
This item comes in as one hitting the mark at 25 tons. This 25- ton machine is a fast and affordable way to split logs with 25 tons of force in 11.5 second cycle time. The built-in log cradle holds logs up to 24-1/2 inches in length.
2. 1986 John Deere 790 Excavator
This powerful motor construction vehicle weighs in at 50,000 pounds or 25 metric tons. Excavators come in different sizes, with the smallest weighing 2,060 pounds and the largest weighing as much as 2,160,510 pounds. This particular one carries the specific dimensions of 32 feet and 8 inches in length, 10 feet and 5 inches wide, and 9 feet and 8 inches high.
3. Average Loaded Garbage Truck
A fully loaded garbage truck can weigh close to 25 tons. There have been variations of the garbage truck since its invention, but at the heart of every truck are its basic driving elements: the frame, engine and wheels.
Since a garbage truck is designed to carry heavy loads when full, all these elements must be heavy-duty explaining reasoning for its weight. In their lifetime, the average American will personally throw away 600 times his or her body weight, which means for most of us, well over 50,000 pounds of trash. This keeps about 63,000 of these containers on the road every day in the U.S.

4. Average Fire Truck
Once drawn by horses, these vehicles are now totally fueled by motor engines. The average fire truck is anywhere from 19 tons to 30 tons.
There are three types of modern fire trucks, with the pumper and tanker trucks carrying hundreds of gallons of water, and measuring up to 30 feet long. Ladder trucks are even longer and can measure up to 40 feet long. The ladders can extend up to 95 feet to allow for access to high rises and skyscrapers. The fire truck is more of a transporter of tools than a tool itself, hauling hundreds of feet of thick hoses that range in diameter from 1 3/4 inches to 5 inches, as one of the types of tools.
5. Snow PlowÂ
A fully loaded plow truck can weigh anywhere from 10 to 28 tons. These trucks are used for cleaning our roads during snow storms, and carry extra equipment: 12-foot reversible front plow; 11-foot reversible under body scraper; 10-foot wing plow; 14-foot combination sander and dump body and 220 gallon pre-wet tanks.
Even though they travel below the posted speed limits, at about 35 MPH, these trucks can be lethal to anyone who doesn’t acknowledge or respect their existence on the highway, due to their large blind spots and limited maneuvering ability.
6. Garcia 48 Catamaran Yacht
The Garcia 48 Catamaran Yacht comes in weighing 23 tons. Garcia models span in size and length from 45 feet to 88.43 feet.
For more than 40 years, a passion that started with two brothers, Jean-Louis and Jean-Pierre Garcia, has become a standard on the high seas. The materials of the vessel are selected for their resistance to extreme conditions and intensive use.
7. Average Loaded Charter Bus
The average weight of a fully-loaded charter bus is 38,000 pounds. This taking into consideration that charter buses come in a variety of sizes, and based on its size, can accommodate up to 85 people. Weight also includes luggage stored in compartment underneath the bus and overhead storage space inside the bus.
8. Interim Armored Vehicle
The IAV (Interim Armored Vehicle) Stryker, named for two U.S. soldiers, is a family of eight-wheeled armored fighting vehicles.
Its mission is to create a force that can move infantry to the battlefield quickly and in relative security. Its weight is 19.3 tons. It’s 22 feet and 10 inches in length, 8 feet and 11 inches wide, and stands 8 feet and 8 inches high.
